The way I quit smoking was I read the book ‘Easy way to quit smoking’ by Allen Carr. Yup! I read a book to quit smoking.

What I did not realize that while reading it was Allen Carr was helping me shift my own identity from being a smoke to being a non-smoker.

It has been over twelve years since I have smoked. It was not until three years ago I heard someone talk about this book. It finally made sense why his book could make me quit smoking.

He gave me tools to start to shift my identity. One of them was instead of smoking I could go out for air breaks. I would go take several deep breathes in and out.

The main thing was I was to identify with being a non-smoker. I remember telling a co-worker I was a non-smoker now. His response was a sarcastic ‘sure’.

This is when I knew I had actually quit for good this time. His response bothered me since I no longer identified as smoker. He could not see this, but I could. I never did smoke again.

All too often we believe that if we create habits that we want, we will follow through. We may for a quick period of time. However, if we do not get to the root of it to shift our identity, we will not stay with it.

Example. Have you ever wanted to get up early and go to the gym? How did that work out for you? Were you able to do it? What did you tell yourself?

Or did you fail miserably? My guess is you told yourself that you are not a morning person. Therefore, your brain tells you it is not time to get up and go to the gym because you do not identify as a morning person going to the gym.

Changing your thoughts helps. But changing your identity will help you get the true results you are desiring for your life.

This is why I am committed to people going through an identity shift. You do not realize how much of your subconscious is playing a role in your world.

This week take a look. Where are you not getting the results, you are craving? Look to see what your identity you are aligning to.

Much love,

Trudi
