Why? Why this? Why that? Why, why, WHY?!

This is the common question I see all the time!

Why’d you do that? Why are you in that relationship? Why can’t I ever be happy?

The thing about having all the information are our fingertips is great. However, this need to know everything about everything is nauseous.

There are plenty of things that I do not need to know in my life. And honestly it is freeing!

With social media it seems to have warped our minds that we have to be all the things since we see all the things. The fact is YOU DO NOT!

How refreshing and freeing to spend time and energy on the things that matter to you the most rather than to do everything!

The thing about the word ‘why’ is that it puts whoever is hearing it on the defense. Whether that is someone you are speaking to, your own self, or you when someone questions you.

I make sure that my clients know to shift the ‘why’ to a ‘what’ question since it ends up defusing the confrontation and opens it up to a conversation.

Here is the example. Recommendation – say it out loud to yourself so you can feel the different energies in your body to understand what I am saying.

‘Why did you say that?’

‘What made you say that?’

It is the smallest tweak. I hope you spoke it out loud to test it. In the first one I could hear the confrontation and the second one I could feel the inquiry of wanting to understand.

Next time you catch yourself saying ‘why’, change it so you can have the engaging conversation you are looking to have.

Much love,
Trudi
